description William Day Overview
William Rufus Day was an American lawyer, diplomat, and jurist who served as an associate justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1903 to 1922. He practiced law in Ohio, served in the McKinley administration, and was a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Day wrote the opinion in Weeks v. United States (1914), holding that federal officers violated the Fourth Amendment by searching Weeks's home without a warrant and that the seized evidence had to be excluded.
