Wizard

description Wizard Overview

Wizard is a modern trick-taking card game designed by Ken Fisher in 1984. It is played with a custom deck of 60 cards, which includes standard suits as well as special wizard and jester cards that alter the standard rules of trumping. The game challenges players to bid the exact number of tricks they will take each round, with points awarded for accuracy and deducted for missed bids. It is intended for groups of three to six players who enjoy strategic prediction and social card games.

help Wizard FAQ

What do Wizards and Jesters do in the Wizard card game?

A Wizard normally beats every other card in a trick, while a Jester normally loses. The 60-card deck contains four Wizards, four Jesters, and 52 suited cards.

How does scoring work in Wizard?

A player who makes an exact bid receives 20 points plus 10 points for each trick taken. Missing the bid costs 10 points for every trick above or below the prediction.

How many people can play Wizard?

The standard game supports three to six players. With three players there can be 20 rounds, while a six-player game ends after 10 because the number of dealt cards increases each round.

Is Wizard related to Oh Hell?

Yes. Ken Fisher's 1984 design uses the same central challenge as Oh Hell: players must predict exactly how many tricks they will take, but Wizard adds its eight special cards.
