Young Vic

The Young Vic was founded in 1970 as an offshoot of the nearby Old Vic theatre, created to present classic plays to younger audiences at affordable prices. It is located near Waterloo on London's South Bank and has since grown into one of the city's most respected producing theatres.

The Young Vic was created as a spin-off from the Old Vic to attract younger theatergoers with cheaper tickets and fresher approaches to classic work. Despite the name connection, the two are now separate institutions, though both remain major London theaters located near each other on the South Bank.

The Young Vic is acclaimed for adventurous, socially engaged productions of both classic and contemporary works. It has built a strong reputation for innovative directing, diverse casting, and staging works that speak to modern political and social issues.

The current Young Vic building, which reopened in 2006 after a major rebuilding project, was designed by the architecture firm Haworth Tompkins. The design preserves the theatre's flexible, intimate performance spaces while modernizing its front-of-house and backstage facilities.
