description Soestdijk Palace Overview

Soestdijk Palace is a former royal residence in Baarn, Netherlands. A hunting lodge built around 1650 developed into a royal summer palace, and Princess Juliana and Prince Bernhard moved in permanently in 1937. Juliana became queen in 1948, making Soestdijk a royal residence until 1980; the couple continued to live there until their deaths in 2004. The palace is therefore a historical site for visitors interested in Dutch royal history, architecture, and the development of a country residence into a working royal court.
