Michel Aflaq

description Michel Aflaq Overview

Michel Aflaq was a Syrian intellectual and political theorist who helped establish the Arab Ba'ath Party in Damascus in 1947 with Salah al-Din al-Bitar and associates of Zaki al-Arsuzi. His ideas combined Arab nationalism, pan-Arab unity, secular politics, and socialism, forming the ideological basis known as Ba'athism. Aflaq served as the party's leading theorist and secretary-general during its early development, while later Ba'athist governments in Syria and Iraq interpreted his legacy in different ways.
