Money Spider (Erigone atra)

description Money Spider (Erigone atra) Overview

Erigone atra, commonly called the money spider or a dwarf spider, is a small member of the family Linyphiidae. It lives near ground level in low vegetation, crop habitats, grassland, and under bark, where it catches small arthropods including aphids and springtails. The species is studied in agricultural ecology because it can suppress crop pests and because both adults and young disperse by ballooning, releasing silk to travel on air currents.
