Eva Zeisel Town & Country Dinnerware

Eva Zeisel's Town & Country Dinnerware is a landmark of mid-century modern American design, notable for its biomorphic, free-form organic shapes. It represented a significant departure from the rigid, perfectly round, and highly conventional tableware of its era.

The Town & Country line was produced by Red Wing Pottery, a ceramics manufacturer based in Minnesota. It was officially launched to the public in 1947 and became highly popular for its casual elegance.

The dinnerware is highly functional because Zeisel designed the free-form pieces specifically to be modular and easily stackable. The curves of the plates and bowls were engineered to nest within one another, saving significant space in the modern mid-century kitchen.

Some of the most sought-after and collectible pieces from the Town & Country line are the whimsical, asymmetrical salt and pepper shakers. Vintage collectors also highly prize the original 1940s red, yellow, and green glaze colors.
