Saeb Erekat was a Palestinian politician and diplomat who served for many years as the chief Palestinian negotiator in talks with Israel. He participated in negotiations associated with the Oslo peace process and later represented the Palestinian leadership in subsequent diplomatic efforts, generally advocating a two-state settlement. Erekat served as secretary general of the PLO Executive Committee and died in 2020 after contracting COVID-19.
