The Victory Arch, commonly called the Hands of Victory, is a monumental pair of triumphal arches in Baghdad's Grand Festivities Square. Each arch consists of large forearms and hands emerging from the ground and gripping a sword, with the swords crossing above the roadway. Completed and inaugurated in 1989, the monument was commissioned under Saddam Hussein to commemorate Iraq's claimed victory in the Iran-Iraq War and incorporates wartime imagery.
