R-29RMU Sineva SSBN Launch Tube (Delta IV)

The R-29RMU Sineva is carried exclusively by the Russian Navy's Delta IV class submarines, also known by their Soviet designation Project 667BDRM. Each of these nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines contains 16 launch tubes designed to hold the liquid-fueled Sineva missiles.

The Sineva submarine-launched ballistic missile officially entered operational service in the Russian Navy in 2007. It was developed as a modernized, deeply upgraded variant of the older R-29RM missile to extend the service life of the Delta IV fleet.

While the R-29RMU Sineva is a liquid-fueled missile deployed on the older Delta IV submarines, the newer RSM-56 Bulava is a solid-fueled missile carried by the modern Borei-class submarines. The Sineva was retained because liquid propellant offers higher energy efficiency, allowing the Delta IV subs to remain strategically relevant.

The R-29RMU Sineva is capable of carrying multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs), reportedly equipped with 4 to 10 nuclear warheads depending on the configuration. This payload capacity allows a single Delta IV submarine to strike numerous targets simultaneously from a submerged launch tube.
