Does the Sonos Playbase support Dolby Atmos?
No, it decodes Dolby Digital and delivers stereo with virtual surround, but not object-based Atmos. For Atmos you need Sonos's later flagship, the Arc, released in 2020, which connects via HDMI eARC.
Why doesn't the Playbase have an HDMI port?
Like the Playbar before it, the Playbase only accepts audio over a single optical (TOSLINK) input. Sonos didn't adopt HDMI until the Arc generation in 2020, so you connect it to your TV's digital audio out.
