6 Hebe

description 6 Hebe Overview

6 Hebe is a large S-type asteroid in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. German astronomer Karl Ludwig Hencke discovered it in 1847, and the asteroid was named after Hebe, the Greek goddess associated with youth. Hebe has been studied because its composition is compatible with ordinary chondrite material, and it is considered one possible source body for some H-chondrite meteorites found on Earth.
