Ampyx

description Ampyx Overview

Ampyx is an extinct genus of trilobite from the order Trinucleida that lived during the Ordovician period. These blind trilobites are easily recognized by the long, prominent glabellar spine that extends forward from the front of their cephalon, as well as their distinct genal spines. Fossil specimens are commonly discovered in marine sedimentary deposits across Britain and other parts of Europe. The unusual cranidal anatomy of Ampyx makes it a distinctive subject for paleontologists studying Ordovician benthic marine ecosystems.
