Outposts extends AWS infrastructure services directly into your on-premises data center. For DR, this is vital when your critical systems cannot easily move to the public cloud. It allows you to run AWS services locally, creating a highly resilient 'edge' site. The DR strategy then becomes replicating data *from* the on-premises Outposts site *to* a remote AWS region, minimizing the need for massive, immediate cloud migration.

Outposts can host local recovery workloads, but one Outpost is not geographic redundancy by itself. Does AWS Outposts work if the connection to the AWS Region fails?

Outposts is not a fully disconnected cloud because its service link supports control-plane work such as API calls, monitoring, and updates. What is the difference between an AWS Outposts rack and an Outposts server?
