The chain moray (Echidna catenata) is a marine moray eel of the family Muraenidae, distributed mainly in shallow waters of the western Atlantic, including the Caribbean region. Its elongated body is marked by dark bands and blotches that join into a chain-like pattern against a lighter background. It is associated with rocky areas, coral reefs, and other sheltered coastal habitats, where it typically remains concealed in crevices with only its head exposed.
