description Copper underwing Overview

The copper underwing (Amphipyra pyramidea) is a moth of the family Noctuidae found across the Palearctic region, including Europe and parts of Asia. It is named for the distinctive copper-orange band on its hindwings, which are otherwise dark. Adults are nocturnal and typically fly from late summer to autumn, while the larvae feed nocturnally on a variety of deciduous trees and shrubs such as oak, ash, and honeysuckle.
