description Dravite Overview
Dravite is a magnesium-rich member of the tourmaline group, usually brown to dark brown or brownish-black and sometimes yellow, blue, or green. It is a trigonal borosilicate mineral whose type locality is near Dobrova and Dravograd in Slovenia, in the area of the Drava River; its name refers to that river. Dravite occurs in many geological environments and is used mainly as a mineral specimen, although transparent brown or green crystals can be fashioned as gemstones.
