What happened to the original Oracle Dyn DNS service?

Oracle acquired Dyn in 2016 and later moved customers toward Oracle Cloud Infrastructure DNS services. A listing simply called "Dyn DNS" may therefore refer either to the former managed DNS platform or generically to dynamic DNS.

How does dynamic DNS find a home server after its public IP changes?

A router or small update client reports the new public IP address to the DNS provider. The provider then updates a hostname such as example.ddns.net so it points to the current address.

Will dynamic DNS work behind carrier-grade NAT?

Usually not for direct inbound IPv4 connections because carrier-grade NAT does not give the customer a publicly reachable address. A VPN overlay, reverse tunnel, IPv6 connection, or ISP-provided public IP is commonly needed.

Does dynamic DNS make remote access secure?

No. It solves changing-address discovery, not authentication or encryption. Remote services should still use measures such as HTTPS, a VPN like WireGuard, strong credentials, and limited firewall exposure.
