Flint Castle is a ruined medieval fortress in Flint, north-east Wales, built by Edward I during his campaign to establish English control over Wales. Construction began in 1277, making it the first of Edward's castles in the later chain commonly called the Iron Ring. Its design includes a distinctive detached keep and reflects the military planning of late thirteenth-century castle building.
