description Rhuddlan Castle Overview

Rhuddlan Castle is a medieval fortress in Rhuddlan, Denbighshire, Wales, begun for Edward I in 1277. It is a concentric castle, with a strongly defended inner ward surrounded by an outer ward, and its unusual plan places the principal gatehouses at the corners of a diamond-shaped layout. The castle stood beside the River Clwyd and is associated with the Statute of Rhuddlan, the 13th-century settlement of English government in Wales.
