Forest Eagle-Owl

The Forest Eagle-Owl is native to the tropical forests of the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Its range includes countries such as India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, and parts of Indonesia, where it inhabits dense lowland and foothill forest.

The Forest Eagle-Owl is noted for its deep, resonant double-note call that carries through the forest at night. This distinctive vocalization is often the best way to detect the species, as it is secretive and difficult to observe visually in dense forest canopy.

The Forest Eagle-Owl is a very large owl, placing it among the bigger raptor species in its range. Like other members of the genus Bubo, it has powerful talons and a broad wingspan suited to hunting prey in tropical forest environments.

As a large raptor, the Forest Eagle-Owl preys on a variety of animals including mammals, birds, reptiles, and large insects found in its tropical forest habitat. Its size allows it to take relatively large prey compared to smaller owl species sharing its range.
