Hypersthene

description Hypersthene Overview

Hypersthene is a mineral in the orthopyroxene group, consisting primarily of magnesium, iron, and silicate. It is usually brown, gray, or greenish and may show a copper-like or bronze metallic sheen known as schiller. That optical effect is produced by the reflection of light from fine internal inclusions, making hypersthene of interest to mineral collectors and sometimes to lapidary users.
