Kerma

description Kerma Overview

Kerma is an archaeological site in northern Sudan that preserves the capital of the ancient Kerma culture and the early Kingdom of Kush. The settlement developed from about 2500 BCE and included defensive works, a religious quarter, palaces, administrative areas, domestic buildings, and cemeteries. Its most recognizable monument is the Western Deffufa, a large mud-brick structure that helps document Nubian urban planning, religious practice, craft production, and exchange with Egypt and regions farther south.
