description Khami Overview
Khami is an archaeological site in western Zimbabwe near Bulawayo and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It served as the capital of the Torwa dynasty after the decline of the Great Zimbabwe state, with the principal settlement dating from the period between about 1450 and 1650. The ruins contain dry-stone walls, terraces, narrow passageways, galleries, and chevron or checkerboard decorations, while imported ceramics provide evidence of long-distance trade.
