Lepidolite

description Lepidolite Overview

Lepidolite is a lilac, lavender, pink, or gray lithium-rich mica in the phyllosilicate group. It typically forms flaky or scaly masses in granitic pegmatites, where its perfect cleavage gives it the flexible, sheet-like appearance characteristic of mica. The mineral was first described in the 1790s from material associated with what is now the Czech Republic and has been an important lithium-bearing ore, although other sources now supply much of the world's lithium. It is also collected as a mineral specimen and used for ornamental stone.
