Lobelia

description Lobelia Overview

Lobelia is a large genus of flowering plants in the bellflower family, Campanulaceae, named in honor of the Flemish botanist Matthias de l'Obel. The genus includes annuals, perennials, and aquatic or semi-aquatic species, with flowers that are often blue, violet, pink, red, or white. Garden lobelias are used in containers, hanging baskets, borders, and moist locations. Some species contain biologically active alkaloids, including lobeline, and plants should not be consumed without reliable identification and appropriate safety guidance.
