Lumpen

Lumpen was a Chicago-based alternative culture magazine that began in the early 1990s as part of the city's DIY publishing scene. It blended arts coverage, political commentary, and countercultural journalism outside of mainstream media channels.

Lumpen covered underground arts, radical politics, alternative music, and Chicago's DIY culture, all from a countercultural perspective. It was part of the broader 1990s zine movement that used cheap photocopying to distribute independent voices.

Back issues of Lumpen can sometimes be found through independent zine archives, Chicago counterculture history collections, and used bookstores with alternative press holdings. Some libraries and universities with zine collections may also preserve copies.
