Lusaka Protocol

description Lusaka Protocol Overview

The Lusaka Protocol was a 1994 Angolan peace agreement intended to end the civil war between the government and UNITA. It provided for a ceasefire, the integration of UNITA forces into the national army, and the inclusion of UNITA representatives in a national government, with the United Nations involved in monitoring implementation. Fighting later resumed, so the protocol did not deliver a lasting end to the conflict.
