description Ogygites Overview

Ogygites is an extinct genus of Ordovician trilobites often placed within Ogygiidae, a group in the order Asaphida. It is known from European Ordovician rocks, including southern France and Wales, and the type species is Ogygites desmaresti. The genus belongs to a group of broadly flattened asaphid trilobites and is relevant to studies of Ordovician marine faunas and Gondwanan or peri-Gondwanan biogeography.
