Philippi is an archaeological site in northeastern Greece, established as a Macedonian city and renamed by Philip II in the fourth century BCE. It later became a Roman colony and was the setting of the Battle of Philippi in 42 BCE, where the forces of Mark Antony and Octavian defeated Brutus and Cassius. The city is also associated with Paul the Apostle and an early Christian community addressed in the New Testament's Letter to the Philippians.
