description Plancheite Overview
Plancheite is a rare hydrated copper silicate mineral with the ideal formula Cu8Si8O22(OH)4·H2O. It is typically pale to deep blue or blue-green and commonly occurs as rounded concretions, spherules, or tightly fibrous and sometimes asbestiform aggregates rather than as large transparent crystals. The mineral was described in 1908 and is associated with oxidized copper deposits, especially at its type locality near Mindouli in the Republic of the Congo; collectors value it mainly as a mineral specimen.
