Powerball is a multi-jurisdiction lottery game in the United States, introduced in 1992 and administered through participating state and territorial lottery systems. Players select numbers from separate pools, including a set of white balls and one red Powerball, with the jackpot awarded for matching the required combination. On January 13, 2016, three tickets shared an annuity jackpot of about $1.586 billion; the game is offered in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
