Protolenus

description Protolenus Overview

Protolenus is a genus of redlichiid trilobites from the early Cambrian Period. Fossils are known from Morocco and the Iberian Peninsula, regions that formed part of the peri-Gondwanan paleogeographic realm. The genus is related to early paradoxidid-grade trilobites and occurs in strata used for regional biostratigraphic comparison. Protolenus is studied in connection with early Cambrian trilobite diversification, faunal exchange, and the correlation of rocks around the former Gondwanan margin.
