Scorodite

description Scorodite Overview

Scorodite is a hydrated iron(III) arsenate mineral with the chemical composition FeAsO4·2H2O. It commonly forms as a secondary mineral when arsenopyrite and other arsenic-bearing minerals undergo oxidation in ore deposits. Crystals may be blue, blue-green, green, or gray and can be transparent to translucent, making well-formed specimens of interest to mineral collectors. Because it contains arsenic, it should be handled carefully.
