Thal Desert

description Thal Desert Overview

The Thal Desert is a sandy desert region in Punjab, Pakistan, bounded broadly by the Indus River to the west and the Jhelum and Chenab river floodplains to the east. Its terrain includes dunes and other wind-deposited sands, but parts of the region have been brought under cultivation through canal irrigation, including projects associated with the Greater Thal Canal. It is studied as a dryland and irrigation landscape in Pakistan.
