description Trimerus Overview

Trimerus is an extinct genus of homalonotid trilobites that lived from the Silurian into the Devonian. It is recognized by a broad, weakly trilobate body, a large head with an expanded anterior margin, and a pygidium that is typically triangular; some species exceeded 20 centimeters in length. Fossils are known from North America, Europe, Australia, and other former marine settings, and the genus is relevant to studies of burrowing and trilobite biogeography.
