description Remopleurides Overview
Remopleurides is an extinct genus of Ordovician trilobites in the family Remopleurididae. It is distinguished by unusually large, curved eyes that extend along much of the cephalon, giving the animal a broad field of view; the cephalon and pygidium also show specialized proportions within the group. Fossils occur in Ordovician marine rocks of Europe, North America, and Australia, and the genus is discussed in connection with swimming or open-water habits.
