description Machrie Moor Standing Stones Overview
Machrie Moor Standing Stones are a group of prehistoric stone circles, standing stones, cairns, cists, hut circles, and field systems on the Isle of Arran, Scotland. The wider archaeological landscape was used between about 3500 and 1500 BCE, and the stone circles were preceded by timber circles on the same sites. Later communities placed cremation and inhumation burials within some of the circles, adding evidence of changing ritual use.
