Three-lined Potato Beetle

description Three-lined Potato Beetle Overview

The three-lined potato beetle (Lema trilineata) is a North American leaf beetle in the family Chrysomelidae. Adults have dark stripes running along their yellowish or orange wing covers, the feature behind the common name, and both adults and larvae feed on the foliage of potato, tomato, tomatillo and other plants in the nightshade family. The larvae are known for carrying their own feces on their backs, which is thought to deter predators.
