description Medzhybizh Castle Overview
Medzhybizh Castle is a fortified complex in the town of Medzhybizh, in Ukraine's Khmelnytskyi region, at the confluence of the Southern Bug and Buzhok rivers. The site was developed as a defensive stronghold of Podolia and received substantial masonry fortifications during the sixteenth century. Its irregular enclosure, thick walls, towers, and surviving religious and residential buildings reflect the region's position between competing states and its need for durable river-crossing and frontier defences.
