description Fuchsite Overview
Fuchsite is a chromium-bearing variety of muscovite, a member of the mica group of sheet silicate minerals. Trivalent chromium replaces part of the aluminum in the muscovite structure and produces its characteristic light to emerald-green color; the mica cleavage gives many specimens a sparkling or pearly appearance. It occurs in metamorphic rocks, including fuchsite-rich green rocks known as verdite, and is collected as a mineral specimen or used in some ornamental stone and jewelry materials, as explained by [Geology.com](https://geology.com/minerals/fuchsite.shtml).
