description XPoSat Overview
XPoSat, the X-ray Polarimeter Satellite, is an Indian space observatory launched by ISRO on January 1, 2024, aboard the PSLV-C58 mission. In low Earth orbit, its POLIX instrument measures the degree and angle of polarization of astronomical X-rays in the 8 to 30 keV range, while XSPECT provides spectroscopy and timing data from 0.8 to 15 keV. The mission is intended for studies of bright sources such as black holes, neutron stars, pulsars, and active galactic nuclei.
