description Manis Overview
Manis was a proposed constellation introduced by the English naturalist and writer John Hill in his 1754 star catalogue 'Urania.' It depicted a pangolin — the scaly anteater whose modern scientific genus name is Manis — placed among the stars between Andromeda, Lacerta, and Cygnus. Hill created a number of unconventional animal constellations, but Manis was never adopted by the astronomical community and is now obsolete.
